Here we go again…..Cruising along at 39,000 feet…what better way to pass the time than to writethis month’s edition of the newsletter. I just saw Danny and Winona Chang who were on their way to Hawaii with their granddaughter. I on the other hand am on my way to Minneapolis, MN the only thing that makes this trip worse is the fact that the movie is Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakwel!! It’s actually pretty funny….gotta love the scenes of farts under the bedcovers!!

The last tournament was held at Wilson Golf Course in Griffith Park. This is the home course for the Tuesday retired group. One would think that these guys would have had a huge advantage over the rest of the field. But it just wasn’t meant to be.

Chang Chang Chang – There was a whole lot of Chang going on in the tournament. There was one Chang in the first four foursomes, there was a Chang playing for the Club Championship, and there was a Chang playing in the Opala Championship. Here a Chang, there a Chang, every where a Chang Chang!!

So in the Club Championship – P. Chang was playing T. Lo. P Chang had a huge advantage because he had played the Griffith Courses almost every day during his three years at John Marshall High School. But it just wasn’t meant to be!! P. Chang didn’t have it that day…but then again neither did Tommy L. After the front 9, P. Chang shot a gross 48 and T. Lo had a gross 46…they had three pars between the two of them!!! Not what you would call Club Champ material!! P. Chang was often seen in the trees on the left hand side of fairway. After 15 holes they were all even but PC went down in flames and lost 3 and 2.

In the Opala Championship – D. Chang was playing Dr. Q for first place loser. This match was a little more contested than the Championship match. Again, the advantage had to go to D. Chang who also played the Griffith Park courses almost every day during high school as well as every Tuesday while on employment sabbatical. After opening with a pair of bogeys it was game on. After 9 holes, D. Chang was 3 up after shooting 3 over par on the front 9. But little did he know that the Dr. was just getting warmed up. (It’s kind of weird writing about yourself in the third person…

it’s like having an imaginary friend!! Ha ha) After 16 holes the match was all even!! And D. Chang had to give the Doc a stroke on the last hole!! On 17, the Doc pulled his tee shot into the first cut of rough but was able to knock his second shot up within chipping distance, the D-man smoked his drive down the center and had 150 yards to the green and hit a 7 iron to 15 feet. The Doc was unable to get up and down and the D-meister made a two putt par and went one up going into the last hole. The Doc showed no sign of giving up and blistered a drive down the middle of the fairway, he had about 170 yards to the green and hit it just short of the green, but Captain D was going to close this one out and hit another thundering drive down the left hand side of the fairway and had 140 yards to the pin. He hit his patented soft slinger in to about 12 feet with an 8

iron definitely not what the doctor ordered!! Q could not get up and down and settled for bogeywhile D. Chang two putted for par and closed out the match 1 up. Q was a very formidable competitor and represented the South Bay very well.

So in the end the South Bay guys win the Club Championship and the Chang Boys take home the Opala Championship. In keeping with my Marsha Marsha Marsha theme….has anyone taken note of how many Ace winners have been paired with yours truly….D. Chang? This month’s winner George Risberg played alongside the D-Meister, the Hansen Dam co-winner Dr. Q also played alongside the Dman,Captain D. also tied for T1 at Tijeras Creek, coincidence I think not!!

If you want to improve your chances of claiming an Ace you better ask Kevin G. to pair you up with MP D.
