Tijeras Creek

Posted On: 6/18/2010 - by DC

The next tournament that we played was Tijeras Creek.

Before I begin to write about the golf, I want to extend a very big Mahalo to Harry Brockman for getting us set up Tijeras. The breakfast was ono and the pupus after golf were awesome. Harry actually woke up early that morning and cooked 10 cups of rice!!

This was the first time the club played the course and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I was waiting to hear a lot of guys complain about the length of some of the carries off the tee but I didn’t hear a single negative comment about the course. The back nine probably provides some of the best backdrops for golf in Southern California.

On with the golf, there was a three way tie at Tijeras between Eric Bilonta, Kyle Rector, and ME. I thought I had shot myself in the foot after finishing with a pair of bogeys. TIMEOUT - I need to put my laptop away because we’re starting our decent. Just in time because I think this document is going to be deciphered by the Chinese Government over night. Probably a good time to throw in some Gay or Golfer jokes…that will really confuse the hell out of them.

Okay I’m back at 39,000 feet on my way back home from three days of grueling meetings with the US Army. I’m pretty sure I’m being spied on because two Chinese Nationals are sitting across the aisle from me, One of them has a hoodie over their head and is pretending to be asleep. I’m not buying it for one bit I bet she’s looking at my screen through that hoodie. This is a royal pain in the butt trying to type on a laptop when the person in front of you has their seat full reclined. Oh well I’m putting on some Kalapana for some writing inspiration. Heck who am I kidding the only reason I listened to those guys is so I could meet the hot chicks at the Point After.

So where did I leave off, I think I was writing about Tijeras Creek. It was great seeing Maddie and Mrs. Ching after the tournament. I hope I look as good as Mrs. Ching when I get to be her age. Heck I hope to look as good as Mrs. Ching next year. She still travels back and forth from Hawaii just like someone in their twenties.

Tijeras Creek was the site of the second round of the Club Championshipand the first round of the Opala Championships. Since I was in the first round of the Opala Championship I can give you a blow by blow breakdown of two of the matches. I played Bruddah Ben in the first round. I was three up after the first three holes and thought I was going to get an extra large order of duck soup but Ben caught me after 9 and brought the match to all even. He must have ran out of gas because I proceeded to win the next five holes which allowed me to win the match 5 and 4. Thanks for the early Christmas gift… There was a three way tie for first place between Kyle Rector, Eric Bilonta, and myself. We ended up playing off at Hansen Dam. Kyle shot a blistering 72 to win the playoff.

In the Club Championship, Paul T. took at last year’s Club Champ Bill K 3 and 2, Paul C. took at Corey 2 up, Bobby O. took out Danny D 10 and 8 (that’s what you call a royal okole kicking), and T. Lo took out KK 5 and 4. In the Opala Championship, I took out Ben S. 5 and 4, Harry B took out Bobby I 1 up, and Dr. Q took out Dennis O 10 and 8 (see above reference to royal okole kicking!!).
