All rain and no golf!
What is it with Los Serranos? This course always seems to have the voodoo out on us and now two tournaments in a row! Well, I happen to think you’re all quite lucky because I was going into the Club Championship qualifications with a whopping 18 handicap and personally saw the gates of heaven open to my FIRST Ace! Now, a severe pinched nerve could derail me altogether.
I mean I just couldn’t go back to bed after tuning up my clubs till 1:00am, then getting up at 4:30am to find out we cancelled, so I thought I’d put on my snowboarding bib( I haven’t mustered up the nerve to purchase the ultimate DryJoys raingear for $600 yet) and join the so-called most devoted golfers in our club to play in a torrential downpour. Hank Patao, Steve Grosky, Yours Truly, and Kyle Rector were there already waiting. Hank Patao has balls! This is the second time he’s driven in a downpour from the Springs to come and play and let’s not forget to mention Kyle Rector trucking his butt out from San Diego for this. What devotion! Still, taking money is my main focus for this day and I’m not going to let these gents psyche me out about their tsunami driving skills.
Trying to stay only moderately wet, parking our carts under any tree or snack shop awning we could find, and watching my driver slip from my hands, fly 20yards ahead of me and almost into a deep ravine, I found myself wishing I had changed my mind and joined Grosky on a jaunt out to San Manual Casino. With Kyle hitting shots straight at pins and Rich getting pist at himself for not getting inside six feet, I decided it was time to avail myself to Richs flask of Johnnie Walker, kill the pain in my neck and forget about one of the worst rounds Ive had in a long long time. All in all, it was still good to be out with the fellas, but trying to qualify with a 94 gross just aint gonna cut it!
In other matters, a big “Thanks!” to King Wilder, Im sure you all love the new website as much as I do as it opens up a lot of ways for us to become creative and post our own news, articles, and photos to entertain you all even more. I believe Darryl is working on a “Gay or Golfer” column and Kevin is piecing together an expose titled “Life off the course – Alternative methods for funding a nice Lifestyle.”(An inside joke I couldn’t resist) Also in the works, a way for the field, family and friends to post articles, comments, communications, classified ads and so forth and the AGC Newsletter will be incorporated into it as well.
Lastly, Mothers Day will be at The Cima restaurant at the Industry golf Course this May 9th. Info is posted, so please RSVP us soon and to all those guys that grind ice: remember the 2 ice shavers that go “round and round”? No Mas! Were going to our old workhorse(the good one) and a new Snowizard Ice Shaver in AGC red! Big Deal? Well, come grind ice and you’ll discover our excitement.
So, get ready and lets qualify on the 20th!
In the words of my 235lb. little nephew, “das how!”
