If you were from Chicago you would have scored at Sierra Lakes our December / January tournament site. We played in steady winds of up to 50 miles per hour according to my wind sock that I wore on my head. And it was COLD too. Me, Q, Hideo & Erin all shot 52, 53, 56 & 57 respectively on the front nine & the guys in back of us were just as bad.
Kyle R. told me he shot a gross 79 with 41 putts. That means that he hit the ball only 38 other times. Putting was a Wow ! Kupuna & AGC founder Bobby Chun chose to sit this one out after being blown around on the first tee. Some of us should have done the same.
After experiencing breathing problems, Paul Jow had to take brother Mike to the emergency facility in Arcadia where he was treated and kept for four days. Mike's recovering at home, resting comfortablly but under the doctor's care. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Mike for a speedy recovery.
Anyway, somebody had to win or survive & it ended up in a tie for first between Kevin Gomez & Hank Patao who shot whopping net 74’s to win / tie for the January 2012 ace. Both must either weigh 250 lbs. each or they must have a low center of gravity because it was not a day for lightweights.
Hank shouted after winning “ eh! Let’s go eat Chinese food, I’m buying “. Well, the nearest Chinese restaurant is 30 miles west & Hank is travelling 40 miles east to go home. Good thought , Hank.
Both Kevin & Hank deservedly took home most of the regular, Makule & Super-makule honors.
After collecting green fees, annual dues and making sure that all the bills were paid, our illustrious Treasurer, Corey Haina went out and won the Ace of Aces title with a net 78 which doesn't say a whole lot for the other 11 competitors. Didn't look pretty but good enough to capture the coveted title and the moolah to go with it.
